What's new in Microsoft Teams - February 2022

Short update from Microsoft Teams roadmap. Some interesting features are coming soon to Teams or even rolling out right now. This time Approval app got some attention from Microsoft, chats got small enhancements, and much more!

Pin/hide your video in meetings

You can select if you want to see your video on a meeting screen (in increased size) or hide it on any screen you use. This is an excellent choice if you want to minimize distractions during a meeting. I often check my video and lost focus on a meeting topic or presentation.

Open-text question polls

Polls for Teams meetings support open-text questions. You can collect any answer and display them as a word cloud. It extends poll use cases but showing long answers isn’t perfect.

Pairing the channel and the corresponding SharePoint folder name

When you rename a channel Teams automatically rename a SharePoint folder for files stored in that channel. The feature supports both Standard and Private channels. It works for new channels and existing channels as well. You don’t need to do anything.

Local time added to people profile

If you work with people from across the world you may find it difficult to correctly match colleagues’ time zones. Scheduling meetings or calls isn’t the easiest task. Now you can check your colleague’s time zone and adjust meetings or even chat timing.

Chat density

This feature allows you to compact chat messages in a window. By default, there is a lot of space between messages. In some cases (small screen, many short messages) it is hard to read the chat window. Now you can fit 50% more messages on the screen!

Respond to group approval requests within the Teams Approvals app

You can respond to an approval request that was sent to a group directly from the Teams Approval app. A small enhancement but improve the Approval app.

Mandatory Comments within the Teams Approvals app

Next improvement to the Teams Approval app. You can set the Comments field as mandatory in your approval template. The feature works in simple approvals as well (created without template).

That’s not all! The full list of new features and updates is available on Teams Blog site – https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-blog/what-s-new-in-microsoft-teams-february-2022/ba-p/3215410
