SharePoint’s got a new AI-powered webpart for FAQ. It’s designed to help you create Frequently Asked Questions sections with good-looking formatting. The AI engine helps you generate content for the webpart using your files, so you don’t need to do it manually. Is that good? Let’s find out!
Introduction
Creating and maintaining an FAQ section on a SharePoint site was always a tricky process. Why? You had to create a custom webpart or buy one because SharePoint didn’t offer such functionality. With the JSON formatting option, you could do that, but it required additional formatting tricks to get the proper FAQ view.
With the latest update, Microsoft released a new FAQ webpart. It’s available as a Preview webpart, but it’s fully functional and you can use it for your Intranet. Plus, it’s powered by an AI engine 😊
Webpart
Let’s check this webpart in action, shall we?
1. Open any SharePoint page and add a new webpart. In the webpart selection window, type “FAQ” in the search and select “FAQ (Preview)” webpart.

2. There are 3 options in the FAQ settings pane:
- Source files – you must select at least one file. It can be docx, pptx, pdf, or Loop file. You can select more than one to make more complex sections. Plus, you can also use a Teams meeting transcription!Purpose – there are 4 types of FAQ (Event, Product, Policy, and General). The selected type gives AI directions and instructions on how the FAQ should be created.
- Other details for AI – it’s not an obligatory field, but if you want, you can add some additional instructions to make the section more tailored for you. It’s just a field for your prompt.
In this example, I used 1 file with information about Copilot, I selected Product style and added additional instructions for AI.

3. AI analyzes for file(s) and based on the information, generates a list of categories for your FAQ. You can edit it – add a new category, edit, delete, or change order. When you’re ready, select the Draft questions button and go to the next stage.

4. On the 2nd stage, AI generates questions for each category. Again, you can add a new question, edit existing ones, delete them, or change order. When you’re ready to go to the last stage, select the Draft answers button.

5. The final step is to review AI’s outcome. At this stage, you have a full FAQ with categories, questions, and answers. Everything is pretty well formatted, with highlighted important words of phrases, bullet points, and even links to external sources. Just select the Keep it button and review the results.

6. Now it’s time to review and fix/modify the FAQ content. You can edit everything – categories, questions, answers. You can also move questions between categories and change order. Plus, it’s you can always add a new category/question if you need to.

7. There is one more option that you should know – Import questions. Select the ellipsis (…) at the category level and then select the Import questions button.

Now you can paste questions with answers as plain text. The webpart will change them into well-formatted FAQs! Look at the character limit – you can paste up to 10,000 characters at a time.

8. The last part is to select the look and feel of the webpart. There are 2 options: Chevron or Plus/Minus. There’s one more option – Enable submit question field. It’s enabled by default, and it gives viewers an option to send you suggestions about new questions/answers.

9. The submit new question option gives users a nice way to share feedback with the FAQ author.

10. Now you can share the page with your users 😊The FAQ is a fully functional webpart with categories, questions, and answers.

Summary
The webpart gives you a quick way to create FAQ sections on any page. Using AI, it’s fast and generates really good outcomes. The entire formatting is modern, and users can quickly find the right question and information related to it.
But what about licensing? To create an FAQ (or edit an existing one) using this webpart, you must have the Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Viewers (so anyone who wants to just use the information) don’t need the M365 Copilot licenses.
